International Felt Stained Glass Exhibition at the Pearse Museum, Dublin

Press Release:

"Felt Stained Glass International Exhibition @ The Pearse Museum

An international exhibition of felt stained glass held at the Pearse Museum runs from the 14th April until the 24th June. It includes the work of over 30 artists from Ireland, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Japan and the US. Some of the most influential artists across the globe are part of it. The call out prompted artists to interpret stated glass technique in felt. The curators are Dr. Niki Collier who developed her own technique of felt stained glass during lockdown and Brian Crowley, one of the curators with the National Museum of Ireland."

It was challenging and fun to contribute to this stunning exhibition and I am very happy that my piece 'Roaming the Ocean' is a part of it. Please read more about Niki Collier and her work here: Click

On April 23rd I flew to Dublin to attend the launch of the exhibition, and below you can find the video I created about my adventure :-)

It was great to meet so many fellow felters, to chat about our passion, and to admire the fantastic artworks.

I thought they were all brilliant, but these come especially to my mind:

-Window on Howth (Claire Merry, Ireland)

-Peacock Feather (Silke Koch, Germany)

-Inspired by Chagall (Susanne Hantzsch, Germany)

-Tenderness (Astrid Tomrop-Hofmann, Germany)

-Day Sleeper (Eithne O'Dea, Ireland)

-Knowlwdge (Joanne Turner, Ireland)

-The Peacock (Breda Fay, Ireland)

-Ukraine (Niki Collier, Ireland)

-Shattered Dreams (Deb Koesters, USA)

-The Blue Jays in the Garden (Elena Kuki, USA)

-Here comes the Sun...Flower (Cindy Kennelly, USA)

My dear friend Silke Koch has described her experiences plus the felting technique in her blog: Click (Google translate makes it accessible regardless of the language). Highly recommended!

Jane Goodall in Vienna - such a fantastic experience to listen to her lecture and to see her holding my felt painting!

My felt painting 'Tiffany Spring Flowers' was selected for the 3rd place in the August juried online exhibition 'Creative Inspiration' hosted by Bauhaus Prairie Art Gallery 🤗

The jurors Margaret Gaeddert and Caryl Morgan took the time to write lovely statements about the works of the award winners (which is not usually done), and it is very interesting what they have to say about a felted painting.

I am so happy that again a piece of fiberwork has been accepted in the fine art setting!

"Tiffany Spring Flowers, a fiber and felt piece by Susanne Weber (third place) anchors the creative process to natural elements. Weber uses time honored techniques of layering natural fiber to create felt but applies the craft to a most unlikely subject, Tiffany glass. Glass design seems to be the opposite of delicate fiber work but the artist shows that the art nouveau style composition can be achieved in a most unlikely medium. The iris’ at the bottom are reminiscent of post-impressionists painters like Van Gogh and Monet. The upper two thirds have the oriental elements that artists of the 1920’s were discovering and incorporating in their art. The artist also includes areas of stitching for emphasis and overall the elements combine to be a creative homage to another time and medium yet rendered in an unconventional method."
