I have always been most happy and creative when, between all the bags, hats and slippers, I took a break and felted 'something plane'. Initially, these were abstract impressions primarily intended for playing with various materials.
Mind-blowing wool paintings from felt artists Moy Mackay, Susan Mulcock, Bridget Bernadette Karn, Renata Kraus and Andrea Hunter opened up a completely new universe and I knew that was the thing for me.
Playing with colours has been fascinating me from the very beginning of my felting activities. From natural fleece to brilliantly dyed fibers, even gold an silver leaf - the possibilities are overwhelming.
The wool for my paintings comes from a variety of breeds: Tiroler Bergschaf, Bluefaced Leicester, Wensleydale, Manx Loaghtan, Falkland, Corriedale, Shetland, Kap-Merino, New Zealand-Merino, Chubut, Jacob Sheep, Drente Heideschaap... and there is still so much more to be discovered! The different textures are endlessly interesting, and I use each material when it's properties are required in a painting.
Animal welfare is of paramount importance to me - so I try to do my work as ethically as possible.
